January 2020 Content Wrap-Up for buckleyplanet.comI can’t remember the last month that was free of travel. It has been years. Come to think of it, I’ve been on an airplane at least once a month for almost 10 years — and for many years, I was averaging 3 or 4 trips per month. While I love traveling, seeing friends around the world and experiencing new cities and cultures, I’ve been keeping fairly busy here at home, and having a long, uninterrupted stretch of non-travel has been fantastic. Client work and my two emotionally-needy dogs have kept me busy. And then there are the online activities — more webinars and tweetjams and other video projects are forthcoming, with all of the joyful post-production tasks. For January, I was invited once again to participate in SharePoint Saturday Virginia Beach, this time as a guest speaker (alongside Microsoft’s Jeff Teper) in the NPR-like program at the end of the event, hosted by fellow MVP Andy Huneycutt (@andyhuneycutt). I was able to host another friend and MVP, Ragnar Heil (@ragnar), who was a guest speaker for the Microsoft User Group Utah (#MUGUT) webinar series, sponsored by CollabTalk, with  links to his slides and recording below. And for my 3rd and final event of the month, I hosted yet another CollabTalk TweetJam to kick off our 9th year of these tweetjams. As always, the event was sponsored by the team at tyGraph, but something new this time out — I recorded a Facebook video summary, and wrote up a quick blog. I’m going to try this out and see how people respond, and may invite others to participate in a <10 min summary each month to showcase some key takeaways from each question discussed. Might be interesting.

As you can see from below, it was a busy month. And believe me — this is *not* everything being worked on, with a few content pieces completed but not-yet-ready for primetime. Much, much more to come in february and beyond, so keep watching this space…

Articles

First on this list are a bunch of articles not tied to a client project. These are more of an outcropping of my thoughts as I develop other content, read through community and Microsoft content, and reflect on some of my own business experiences. One theme that you’ll see more of this year is around traditional project management-type ideas. I’m trying to get back to my PM and BA roots in some ways.

Productivity Tips

As most of you know, I’m a fan of end user productivity tips. I’m constantly scanning the airwaves for tidbits that I can share, and to give props to those who share them. If you’re not following me on Twitter (@buckleyplanet), I’d say about 50% of what I share on a daily basis (which can be anywhere from 8 to 15 original tweets) is productivity related. Many of the articles below come from my almost-monthly webinar series with Tom Duff (@duffbert). We had to scuttle our January webinar due to scheduling conflicts, but we’ll definitely be back on February 25th. You can register here for the “February Fray.”

I used to joke that I wanted to be “the Diane Sawyer of the SharePoint community” which still makes me laugh. I have three primary interview series: First, the #MVPbuzzChat series, in which I interview fellow MVPs from around the world, highlighting their work and passions. If you want to get to know the MVPs (or, if you’re an MVP that I have not yet interviewed), check out the series here or in the top nav of my blog. Second, the #MsftBuzzChat series, in which I interview Microsoft people in much the same way. And Third, the #CollabTalk Interview series, which covers experts, partners, and community members on a broader variety of business and technology topics. In January, I added to all three series:

I have a handful of these to complete in February, and then I’ll be all caught up. Going forward, every interview generally has a video published to the CollabTalk YouTube page, a podcast hosted on the CollabTalk page on Soundcloud, and a blog post with links to the person’s social profiles, blog and website. I have a template, and I’m trying to be consistent with these in form and function.

Events and Activities

As I detailed above, no in-person events this month — although there was one local event: the Silicon Slopes Tech Summit. Other than that, no flights, no cross-country drives, and a lot less stress because of it :-). Still kept busy, though.

Customer Content

With 4 active clients right now, I am staying fairly busy. This list will be expanded in February and March, with postings coming at a more rapid pace. A couple years back, I failed to keep up with my goal of writing 365 articles in 365 days, following the lead of fellow MVP Tracy Van der Schyff (@tracyvds). At the current pace, that might happen by mid-year. Looking forward to the challenge.

We moved it to Friday, Feb 7th and rebranded it Microsoft 365 Friday with an expanded set of topics and, as always, a great mix of industry experts and local gurus.
