Visual Studio 2017 Launch Event

Related imageAs a non-developer, what am I doing talking about Visual Studio? Well, I think the 20th anniversary of it’s release is a pretty important milestone – and the launch date is coming up quick on March 7th, followed by a day of live interactive training sessions. And if that’s not enough, Microsoft is also organizing regional launch events in March. These local events are a great opportunity for the broader ecosystem to come together and network with our local Microsoft reps and many of the local MVPs. For example, in the US Western region, we have six launch parties on the calendar:

As a recent transplant to the greater Salt Lake Valley, I’m looking forward to meeting many of the 37 other MVPs from the area who offered to help out with the Lehi, Utah launch party on March 14th. I spend most of my days surrounded (virtually, most days) by SharePoint, Office 365 and Azure folks, so this will be a great opportunity to expand my networking horizons.

The format of each of these events may have some differences, but within the 3 hours, there will be a wealth of content and demos, with a number of “lightning talks” to highlight important updates within Visual Studio. If you’re considering joining us at the Lehi event, here’s what you can expect from the content:

  • Session 1: Visual Studio 2017 Overview
  • Session 2: Productivity in C#
  • Session 3: Productivity in Development
  • Session 4: Productivity in Debugging
  • Session 5: Productivity in Testing
  • Session 6: Productivity in Windows
  • Session 7: Productivity in Mobile
  • Session 8: Productivity in Web
  • Session 9: Productivity in Data

That’s a lot to cover in 3 hours, with MVPs taking the lead on most of it. The schedule is not etched in stone, as people are still providing feedback and the local Microsoft team is making assignments. Whether or not you can take time off work and make it to one of the in-person events, be sure to save the date for the March 7th keynote and demos with Julia Liuson, Brian Harry, Miguel de Icaza, and Scott Hanselman as they share the newest innovations in Visual Studio, .NET, Xamarin, Azure, and more, and then again on March 8th for the live interactive trainings.

For those of you planning to attend the March 14th event in Lehi, I’ll see you there with several other members of the Utah SharePoint User Group!
