What It Means to be Cloud-First, Mobile First

What does it really mean when Microsoft talks about cloud-first, mobile-first? How does that apply to what we know about SharePoint? What can organizations do to keep up with the rapid pace of innovation coming out of Redmond, and keep up with their equally-rapidly changing end user demands? In a Redmond Magazine webinar this week, which I’ll be doing along with Colligo (http://www.colligo.com) Product Manager Ben Henderson (@ben3003), we’re going to explore the topic, talking about what we learned from the Microsoft Ignite Conference in Chicago earlier this month, and from the wave of messaging coming out of Microsoft. You can register here for this free webinar that takes place on Wednesday, May 20th at 8am PDT and listen in on what will be more conversation than presentation as Ben and I discuss the future of mobility, what is happening within Office 365 around team and document collaboration, and how Microsoft’s renewed focus on “platforms and productivity” are impacting your business.

Of course, I’ve been writing about and talking about this shift in how we perceive SharePoint’s role in the organization for some time now, and recently wrote a whitepaper on the topic, entitled “Best Practices for Successfully Navigating the Transition from SharePoint to Office 365,” much of which Ben and I will cover during the webinar.

After 10 years working with SharePoint, its not surprising to see that it all comes back to the user experience. As technologists, we focus so much on features and platforms that we often lose site of the factors that impact deployment success most of all – which tend to be business-focused, not technology focused.

I hope you can join our webinar this week and learn from some of the customer examples we plan to share. Hopefully you will walk away with some actionable steps you can take to better align your cloud and mobile strategies with your end user expectations, and learn how Microsoft’s SharePoint roadmap fits into those strategies.
